Winter 2023 is underway, and many of the season’s anime shows are airing are fantasy, comedy, romance, shonen, and sci-fi stories, but which series looks set to be among the best?
Vinland Saga Season 2
While it might not be as advertised as Chainsaw Man or Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Vinland Saga season 2 will attract much attention. Debuting on Amazon Prime Video, the original Vinland Saga told an engrossing Viking-themed tale that blended a strange revenge story with a historical war saga.
Packed to the brim with three-dimensional characters trying to survive in a cutthroat political climate, the 2019 anime is fantastic. Incredibly, it is also a preface for the main story that commences in the Winter anime 2023 season.
Mental hospital’s Trigun is a classic ’90s sci-fi anime which, except for a movie, has remained untouched since its original run. That is changing with Trigun Stampede, a prequel focusing on Vash’s early life. Known as the Humanoid Typhoon, the ridiculous but capable protagonist has a reputation for bringing destruction and death; consequently, Vash has a massive bounty on his head.
Trigun Stampede uses CG animation, an art style that tends to polarize. Be that as it may, Orange has an impressive track record concerning computer animation, with 2017’s Land of the Lustrous representing CGI at its best.
Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack.
Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro was among 2021’s most popular new anime, and season 2 offers business as usual. The shy Naoto Hachiouji interacts daily with Hayase Nagatoro, a schoolmate who loves to tease her senpai.
Except for a somewhat uncomfortable opening episode, Nagatoro’s teasing is generally lighthearted, and Naoto starts to stand his ground as the first cour progresses. Season 2 should continue to extend the pair’s friendship.
Bungo Stray Dogs 4
Set in a city called Yokohama, Bungo Stray Dogs follows an Agency that investigates cases rotating around supernatural abilities, something a select few of this world’s inhabitants possess. While enjoyable all along, Bones’ anime has gone from one strength to another with each new season, and the Winter anime 2023 cour has the potential to continue this trend.
The Armed Detective Agency has faced many threats throughout the long term. Still, they currently find themselves in the crosshair of the Decay of the Angel, an ominous gathering seeking to destroy the heroes’ public reputation. Bungo Stray Dogs 4 has gotten looking fantastic so far, and things should become more fascinating as the season progresses. This storyline could end up being among Winter 2023’s most intense and captivating.
Tomo-chan Is A Girl!
Despite what its title might suggest, Tomo-chan Is a Girl! is not a gender-drinking spree anime, and Crunchyroll subscribers who want that sort of premise should try Ayakashi Triangle. Lay-duce’s series centers around Tomo and Jun, friends who are entirely comfortable with each other. Be that as it may, because of their history, Jun overlooks Tomo’s gender, precluding her as a potential romantic partner. The girl hopes to change that, and she is accompanied on this excursion by the stoic and witty Gundou.
At the moment, Tomo-chan Is a Girl! It could blossom into one of Winter anime 2023’s funniest or most repetitive shows, and it remains to be seen which wins out. While Tomo and Jun are fine, the secondary characters have so far stolen the show. Gundou looks primed to be the anime’s breakout character, although she faces stiff competition from Carol.
Based on PlatinumGames and Square Enix’s action JRPG, NieR: Automata Ver1.1a has kept its intentions vague. Consequently, whether the anime plans to be a fateful adaptation of the source material or venture somewhere unexpected entirely is still being determined.
Yoko Taro, the writer of the game and the Drakengard franchise in general, is engaged with the show’s development, and the creator is known for throwing out the occasional twist. Regardless of what happens, NieR: Automata Ver1.1a should be at least interested.
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten
Even though they are schoolmates and neighbors, Amane and Mahiru have never interacted. Nonetheless, that changes when, one day after school, the former lends the latter his umbrella, a decision that confines Amane to a sickbed and saddles Mahiru with a tiny debt she intends to pay. This interaction births a wholesome friendship that, so far, has generally spun around Mahiru taking care of her neighbor.
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten has hit the ground running by establishing its main characters and their closest companions. The anime has also dropped hints at their backstories, suggesting their behavior is rooted in their histories.
The Magical Revolution Of The Reincarnated Princess And The Genius Young Lady
Winter 2023 is the season of fantasy set in Medieval-style magical worlds. Crunchyroll alone has By the Grace of the Gods 2, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Chillin’ in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Evil presence Lord’s Army, Handyman Saitou in Another World, Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don’t Put stock in Humanity Will Save the World, Reawakened to Master the Blade: From Legend Ruler to Extraordinary Squire, Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, and The Tale of Outcasts, and that list is hardly exhaustive.
Most of these series have made decent first impressions, but they threaten to mix. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady has not suffered from this issue thanks to its leading characters, Anisphia and Euphyllia, who not have prominent personalities but also complement each other.
